S is off in the mountains today, so I am having a quiet day at home. It's a soft day, as they say in Ireland. I went out for a damp walk; for a change I put the long lens on the camera. I don't use it very much, but when I do I am usually impressed by the results. The flock of chaffinches was so far away that even with the lens at full length I cropped the end result massively. But it still looks quite sharp.

I finished the Angela Thirkell; it was highly entertaining. I was given The Goldfinch for my birthday, so maybe that should be next ... a complete change of register.
