Toot!

I thought I'd better give you a break from photos of sand and clouds. Today we decided to go to Amposta, which is the main commercial centre, such as it is, for this part of the Delta. Truth to tell, it doesn't have much to recommend it. Today was the carnaval, and the stallholders in the market were in fancy dress. The only other sign of the festivities was a somewhat feeble parade of costumed people, with a couple of bands (one consisting solely of drummers, including some six or seven years old). They didn't lack enthusiasm though. I chose this photo because I liked the way I'd caught the musician's eye. He looks quite puce in the face while his friend looks very cool and collected.

We didn't hang around; the sky was getting increasingly overcast and rain was forecast, so we went on a little drive around to explore more of the delta around the Punta del Fangar (Quagmire Point) -- we had neglected to wear suitable shoes, so we didn't do much walking. I am building up a collection of typical delta views (no sand in these):

I hope these Flickr links work! I fixed yesterday's thanks to a suggestion from Chamaeleo.

Apart from that, a quiet day at home, reading and catching up on blips. Interestingly, while browsing I came across a TripAdvisor review for the restaurant we went to yesterday, by a Spanish couple. They asked for the menu del dia and were handed a menu with the usual 3 courses plus wine and coffee, 21 euros. Being Spanish, they said, "Are you sure this is the normal menu del dia?" "Oh, sorry," said the waiter. "This is the copy we give to tourists. We'll only charge you ten euros." We were well aware of being funnelled into the "foreigner" part of the restaurant, and the food was very good, but hmm -- that may be the first and last time we go there!
