Journey Through Time

Rest Lake

Yes this lake is really called Rest Lake and the Tundra Swans do a lot of resting here in the winter.  Bill and I went to Ridgefield NWR today and we were there around noonish, and the light wasn't all that wonderful, so my photos aren't all that wonderful either. I might put them up on my Flickr page, and I'll add a link to this entry later.   I told Bill that one of these days, these swans will decide it's time to return north to their breeding ground, and they will be long gone.  I looked it up, and yes...it's usually in mid March that they start to migrate northward.  Hopefully they all had a good R & R while vacationing at Ridgefield.  I wish I knew the exact day and time this will happen...because witnessing them in flight is so much better than seeing them resting.  More fun to photograph, too.

The weather continues to be abnormally wonderful.

And I did want to tell you, in case you are interested....our dinner last night was terrific.  Loved the quiche that we got at New Season's Market and the avocado was perfect and the asparagus was really good. They were doing taste samples and we got the recipe....  It's easy.

Here's what you do with asparagus:

Get your asparagus (however much you want), rinsed and chop off the woody bottom part.
Get a juicy tangerine somewhere if you can.  If possible, have a bit of fresh ginger and garlic on hand.  And some flaky salt, like Kosher salt.  Grab some olive oil and put some in the pan (just enough to cook however much asparagus you have to heat up) , add 1 clove of chopped garlic and cook  on medium low heat...so you don't burn the garlic.  Add the asparagus and the juice of 1/2 tangerine and cook for 4 minutes or so.  While that's cooking, grate up some ginger....not much...1 teaspoon or a bit more and put that on top of your asparagus and let that all cook for another 2 minutes.  Sprinkle some kosher salt on top of that and serve.  Be sure to get a spoon and scoop up the tasty bits of garlic and ginger to put on top of the asparagus. Yummy heavenly goodness.
