Through the Kahikatea Maze, Dennistoun Bush

It's been yet another beautiful afternoon here in the Forest, with the Bellbirds chiming in the tall trees for much of the day.

With the sun dipping towards the horizon and beautiful golden light filtering through the canopy, I decided to go for another walk in Dennistoun Bush to see what I could capture.

This group of five huge kahikateas stands just along from the ancient totara tree that I've blipped before. The path around the bush goes right through the trees, giving an Alice in Wonderland-like experience as you pass between the massive trunks into the greenery on the other side.

With the 'goblin tree' and this experience, It really does feel like an enchanted forest.

Talking of ancient trees, if you've not heard, there's a stoush happening in the tree tops in West Auckland. A  protester, Michael Taveres,  is staging a tree-top sit in an 500 year old kauri to prevent it, and  a neighbouring 300 year old rimu, being felled to make way for a two new homes. Good on you Michael! Find out more about it on the 3News website

For a so-called "100% Pure" country we sure are making a hell of a mess of our forests and unique environments in the name of "progress" and the almighty dollar. It makes me sad and incredibly frustrated...
