Garden View

Staying in temple lodgings, called shukubo for a few days to explore the beautiful temple town of Koyasan. Celebrating its 1200th anniversary in 2015, Koyasan is an important centre of Buddhism in Japan.

There are over 50 temples offering accommodation. The one I am staying at is very traditional with tatami floors, shuji screens, a futon and a kotatsu (worth a Google if you don't know this term) and lovely garden views. Guests are given yukata to change into before a sumptuous vegetarian feast is served in individual dining rooms. It's very peaceful and tranquil. Hoping the futon is more comfortable than it looks!

If there is any religion that could respond to the needs of modern science, it would be Buddhism.
