Just Crocuses

How can one say "just" crocuses when those vibrant flowers attract such admiration every year. They may be common at the moment but that does not detract from their beauty.
In Greek mythology the youth Krokus who was unhappy in love was turned into a flowering plant. Over the centuries it spread from the Middle East over Europe and was highly valued for the production of Saffron. Indeed Saffron Walden in Essex was a centre for this and in terms of cost per ounce it was one of the most expensive products in the world.

The New York company which is arranging the sale and those who are the preferred bidders recognise that an organisation with such remarkable member loyalty and affection can not be allowed to go to the wall. But we should not be surprised if when it is relaunched we find ourselves paying much more to keep it going. We have shown the potential owners how much it means to us and they are in business mainly to make money.
