Plastic Perch

Very dull and cold day here in Essex.

This collared dove is sitting on one of our disused polytunnels or plastic structures that has lost its covering. The use of plastic film has revolutionised many aspects of horticulture and agriculture. The same has happened in other industries too.

Prince Charles has today been talking at a conference in America about plastics in the marine environment. He said that half of all marine mammals have plastic in their guts. He said he was haunted by the tragic images of seabirds, particularly albatrosses, that have been found dead, washed up on beaches after mistaking a piece of plastic for a meal. :(

When I was a child we used to talk of "cheap plastic rubbish" as the early plastics were very brittle. Lots of high-end products are made of plastic these days.

I've been singing this in my head. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7dxmsDRSUI
