The Hover

It's so nice to have the challenge of catching a hummingbird while hovering, like this male Broad-billed up at Madera Canyon.  I'm so used to the antics of Zippy simply soaring in and out of my sight line (as Costa's hummingbirds do), with few opportunities to catch him mid-air, that I have almost forgotten what this is like. 

It's fun!  

It also makes me appreciate the few times I have caught Zippy  in flight!
