Miles and Miles of Sagebrush

Northern Nevada
offers rugged scenery,
little phone service

It was a short hop from Reno to Winnemucca, Nevada. The drive was a lot of miles of desert landscape. This area is known for many mining ventures. The town here has recently received another boom in that industry. We drove around to see what a modern day mining town looks like. An RV park was created on the north edge of the town to alleviate the housing needs of the influx of mining personnel. Most of this park consists of row upon row of bunkhouses. Each bunkhouse has 3 doors to accomodate 3 residents. These are too small to have much more than a bed behind each door. A large laundry/washroom/shower facility sits at the front of the complex. Included in the development are some rows of very small 'houses' much like the park model homes we see in Arizona. These would be less than 500 square feet each. Presumably, these would provide for a couple or a single parent. One of the mining companies runs buses from Winnemucca to the job site. We see vehicles left in fenced areas like park and ride we see at home.
