KITTIWAKES AT THE BALTIC

Decided to go to Gateshead today and pop down to the Quayside to see the kittiwakes.

The River Tyne is home to an important breeding population of around 800 pairs of Kittiwakes, including a colony of around 600 pairs at NewcastleGateshead Quayside, which is the furthest inland in the world.  The Kittiwakes return to the quayside in mid-March and usually depart in August.

These ones will make their nests on this ledge on THE BALTIC CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

After taking some shots of the birds ( close up  HERE ) and other sights of the Quayside ( Millennium Bridge   HERE ) - I did some shopping in Gateshead.  The weather was lovely - sunny and quite mild but very windy.

Steps today - 5,320
