Look, But Don't Eat!

As Autumn tightens it's grip on the forest, the fungi come out to play.

Walking the dogs earlier today, I spotted these Giant Flamecaps on a ribbonwood trunk at the entrance to Dennistoun Bush.I popped over the road to photograph them later in the day, once the Good Friday day walkers had headed home.

These fungi are about 20cm across and arranged like a stack of pancakes. not that you'd want to eat them of course, as these Giant Flamecaps are poisonous. Unlike pancakes of course....
