Chemin de Croix

Friday
Despite the miserable, steady rainfall, a decent crowd turned out in Fontainebleau late afternoon for the "Chemin de Croix" (way of the cross). We met in the gardens of the chateau, and processed through the streets of Fontainebleau, following the cross, pausing at intervals, observing the 14 stations of the cross, with a short reading and prayer, then singing as we continued on to the next stopping point. I must admit, as we were driving into Fontainebleau through the pouring rain, I was tempted to forget the idea, and go back home, returning later for our service at the English-speaking church, but Roger chose to ignore me, and we carried on, and I was glad we did. Last year we went back to England for Easter weekend, so this year since we were here, we wanted to participate in this local tradition. The procession ends at the Catholic Church in the centre of Fontainebleau, but we continued on to our church, where we had a meditative service of readings and hymns.
