Today's the day ............................ to upgrade

There were no trains in or out of Carnforth Station today.

This part of the country was one of several areas undergoing work over the Easter weekend as part of Network Rail's £100M programme of improvement and investment works.  While you were tucking into your Easter Sunday roast dinner - or hunting for Easter eggs in the garden - some 14,000 workers in and around the London area alone were carrying out vital upgrades.

It would make you feel very sorry for them, except for the fact that they are probably on triple over-time rates of pay.  Let's hope they do better than they did over the Christmas break though.  The big railway bosses came under huge criticism when engineering work overruns caused passenger chaos at Kings Cross and Paddington.

Word has it that this Easter holiday, the big bosses will be on duty and ready to give a hand where necessary ....................
