HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEN!

Our friends, Judy and Den, came down to Boscombe to see us today - and it just happened to be Den's 70th birthday.  After coffee and biscuits sitting on the balcony of the apartment, we went down to our favourite beachside restaurant, Urban Reef, for lunch.

It was a beautiful sunny day, so we sat on the upstairs balcony at the restaurant and had a great time together.  Although they are new friends, we were chatting as if we had been friends all our lives and it was amazing how many people we knew that they knew and vice versa and whilst chatting, we realise we have so much in common with them (including an excellent hairdresser, Lisa, who just happens to be their daughter!)

I had bought a birthday cake and some candles, and managed to slip them to the waiter without Den knowing, so after our meal, out came the cake.  It was a little breezy so it was quite a job for the waiter to keep the candles alight, but he did a great job.  When we started to sing Happy Birthday, everyone around joined in - what a great crowd!

I think it's fair to say that Den enjoyed his birthday - and you can see by the photograph that he is ready to stab cut the cake!

What a blessing to make new friends and even better to share a special birthday.

“A happy birthday is measured
not in the amount of gifts one gets,
but in the amount one is loved.”
