Taking the Sun

After having cleared up a bit in the garden following the BBQ last night, and a visit to the bottle bank, we decided to go for a walk at Crathes. Here we are near the walled garden. This seemed like a nice sheltered spot to enjoy the sunshine for a few minutes.

From where I took this photograph the original castle is hidden behind the house which was added at a later date. In many of the castles around Aberdeenshire the original castle has been absorbed into the later additions, and is barely visible in the existing building. In the case of Crathes the house has been built onto the side of the original tower house, and inside is almost like a separate building.
