Gullfoss Iceland

Back blip
We checked the road conditions and weather forecast and all was good for a trip to the Golden circle. Some of the roads had been red, meaning closed for most of the time.
Heading towards Þingvellir , ( ' an area which is part of a fissure zone running through Iceland, being situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantc Ridge ' we headed through snow and ice covered scenery. Amazing frozen lakes but when we stopped to take some photos a man came over and asked for our help as a lady with her two children in a 4x4 had become totally stuck in the ice . So after about 20 minutes luckily another car came past with a rope and managed to pull the car out. We saw several other 'little' cars which had been abandoned and were now covered in snow.
Onwards and through the stunning National park, no time to stop but the views were breath taking. First stop was at Geysir Geothermal Field. I could have spent all day there watching Strokkur spout. Beautiful sunshine that was gradually melting the ice. A very interesting area.
On to Gullfoss another jaw dropping place. Never seen anything like it. Frozen in places with a rainbow spanning across the water.The boys and Ashlene walked down closer than us, we're not that brave !
On to the oldest swimming pool in Iceland in Flúðir. The geothermal pool opened in 1891 . The secret lagoon is completely different from the Blue Lagoon. Soo hot and clear. We had to take breaks sitting on the steps or side and dangling our feet in the water. A fantastic experience and it was great to speak to some locals who use it regularly. One little girl was friendly but could nt speak English. She said ' I speak little English but I do speak Swedish.'
The drive back was not so good as the weather changed suddenly and we had to drive through driving snow, wind and fog so beware if you are driving in Iceland the weather changes in seconds.
Saw the Northern lights again, not as strong as the other night but still great to see.
