ELO, Glasgow

Mike and myself took the early train down to Glasgow and we were in Glasgow City Hotel before midday. After a cup of tea we set off into the drizzle to find the Willow tea rooms for afternoon tea.The tea rooms were designed by Charlies Rennie Mackintosh in 1903. A beautiful setting and it felt like we had been transported back in time. A delicious tea made with tealeaves, a range of mini sandwiches, a scone ( perfect) and a very tasty 'cake of your choice'  which was a hard decision but went for the lemon meringue which was just like the ones I used to have at school, the best !
Then a wander up to the Glasgow School of art. Sad to see it covered in scaffolding after the fire in the library in May 2014.Designed by Mackintosh and considered to be his 'greatest architectural work'. The school functioned for over 100 years and restoration work is wel underway. Fortunately there are plenty of photos of the library and a 3D image has just been created.
A walk round parts of Glasgow and then down to the River Clyde, now in heavy rain, to make our way to the SSE Hydro.
A rest and a cuppa in the Hilton hotel with views across the river. Dinner in the Crown Plaza and then on to watch The Feeling and ELO in concert.
Amazing !! Great sound,Great Lights, Great songs. ELO were my favourite band when I was  11/12 with Mr Blue Sky being one of my favourite songs. Can't believe that was nearly 40 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhFy4qZ0ah8
Wonderful atmosphere with everyone singing long, even if the majority were balding men of a certain age ;)
We walked some of the way back and caught a taxi for the rest of the way. A good start to our few days away.
