Tikal

A 5.00am start to Tikel, our last Guatamala site. It is in the least populated and poorest part of the country

It is set in tropical rainforest, thus the early start as it was about 38 degrees by 11.00am. Much of the site remains unexcavated but you can see the giant shapes and can imagine what is under there.

Lots of birds and animals for the twitchers in the group while the rest of us just enjoyed the history and the walk. I became dehydrated and needed the assistance of our lovely GP travelling companion. Having my pulse being taken in the jungle....now that is new...now on a diet of Lucozade type drink to replace salts and minerals! I feel fine now after a long rest and sleep.

Home on Tuesday night.. Looking forward to returning to English weather!
