Gently down the stream

Toast

Went out early to get my blip this morning in a blast of sunshine as the weather was forecast to go a bit by lunchtime.  Which it duly has.

The building on the left is the Phoenix Inn, Twyford, just outside Winchester.  It's a Grade II listed building (C17th timber frame, I read, refronted in C18th and altered in the 19th).  Anyway, it was a coaching inn on the old Winchester to Portsmouth turnpike, so it's been there a while.  It's history is at best sketchy, but from talking to people there is a general understanding its name means that it was razed to the ground by a fire and completely rebuilt - in the C17th presumably.  Which hasn't stopped it having a large log fire in the Lounge and a 'renovated' log fire in the skittle alley!

All of which slightly made me smile, particularly when the Warburton's bread lorry came swishing importantly passed!!  Toast, I thought.  Toast!
So this is my blip for MonoMonday, mm65, subject Fire, hosted by notowennewitt - thank you so much, Peter!

Enjoy your evening  xx
