Siberian crab apple

It is looking as though this could be a very good year for crab apples. Our small-fruited, very ornamental Siberian crab apple tree is smothered with blossom, which bodes rather well for a good heavy crop come the autumn.

Then it will be the usual race between me and the local flock of rose-ringed parakeets to see who can scoop the biggest haul of the hard little bright red apples. I pick them neatly to make into delicious crab apple jelly. The emerald green parakeets love dining on the fruit, but always seem to drop as much as they eat!
