Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Chicago Shadows

A brilliant day!  Cold and crisp and bright.  We walked thru millennium park to the Art Institute where we enjoyed so many "old friends" and new.   A long time.  Always have to visit Seurat's La Grande Jatte and my favorite Vuillards but we also loved those Venetians, Tiepolo, Titian and Tintoretto. Out for more walking, lunch and a visit to the nearby Museum of Contemporary Photography for an interesting exhibit in a crowded space, Dandy Lion, of black masculine identity by some young international photographers...   Tried to go sit awhile in Grant Park, but alas, it was taken over by the NFL Draft Town which is about to happen here ( after we are out, happily:-)) so we went back for a sit down in wonderful friendly millennium park .  People do enjoy the "bean" so much.  "Cloud Gate" by Anish Kapoor is an amazing piece and I just could not resist this for the theme of "shadow" for my blip challenge.  Sorry I can't do the links on the iPad -I'll post them later.   The Jaune Plensa sculpture, the extra picture, is nearby, of a temporary exhibition by the artist who did the Crown Fountain there that has 1000 video faces.   For the 10th anniversary of that fountain he has created "1004  portraits" with 4 new heads.  here are 2 of them...The exciting part for us was just having seen the new head in Seattle in our own sculpture park by this artist . Also put a photo of the whole "bean"....
Too much , I know.  Another good dinner at a Chicago Italian classic restaurant.
Tomorrow we go north to the suburb of Evanston.  I grew up in the next suburb, Wilmette.  My mother had 3 sisters, 2 of which lived in Evanston.  Her twin's son J and I grew up very close as our moms were so close.   So there are very warm memories of growing up as kids, and then my H was his roommate in Med school at the U of I here in Chicago so those are good memories too, but a very different scenario after we moved apart and he had 2 children and 2 wives, and a genetic disease that caused a lot of trouble for him and his children. .  So the last sad years there wasn't much contact.  But we feel we need to say goodbye so will go with his younger brother to bury his ashes in the cemetery where all our parents are.    More tomorrow....
Sorry this is too long, .....we had a lovely day today!
