St. Bartholomew's Church, Horley

Well, my worst fears were realised. Our day in the field proved rather unpleasant, with prolonged heavy rain, interspersed with the occasional hail shower. We retreated to the car at lunchtime to escape the worst of the weather, and made the mistake of switching the ignition on without running the engine. When we came back at the end of the day, pretty much soaked to the skin, the car wouldn't start - we'd drained the battery. Luckily a very nice AA man came out quite quickly and got us on the road again.

We all felt better after a hot shower and a change of clothes, and by the time we headed out to find an evening meal the sun was shining - typical! We strolled past this church on our way to the nearest pub, but when we arrived there was a queue of people outside the door all trying to get tables for dinner - none were available! We beat a hasty retreat and headed into the town centre, where we found a very pleasant Curry House with good food and affable staff. An excellent end to a rather trying day.
