Alliums at Seechem Manor

After a dreary morning of constant drizzle it dried up this afternoon and we headed out to visit the garden at Seechem Manor near Alvechurch. The garden is open to visitors this weekend as part of the NGS Gardens Open for Charity Scheme.

It was certainly worth the short trip to visit. The gardens include a delightful display of herbacious perennials and a beautiful pond, all set around a very attractive 15th century Grade II listed house. The house is owned by a Harefield surgeon, who specialises in congenital heart disease, and his wife. He has travelled to Palestine, Egypt, Mauritius and Brazil to spread his expertise, and here he was cheerfully standing outside his home collecting a small sum from us for charity so that we could share in their magnificent garden.

The approach to the house took us past a wildlife pond and a very striking buttercup meadow which almost made it as my blip for the day. but in the end I have opted for this shot of some alliums in the garden.
