Today's star plant!

A strange choice perhaps, but this nice little plant, Common Cornsalad, has never been recorded before at the nature reserve...and there it was this morning on a dry bank next to one of the entrances. This entrance track is used for timber extraction and last year it was widened and resurfaced, and in the process the banks were scalped, leaving some bare patches. I can only think some seed was introduced at that time on the contractor's vehicles or in the chippings that were brought in. Anyway, it is too small to constitute an invasion problem, so as far as I am concerned it is welcome. It will be interesting to see how this tiny annual plant fares over the next few years.
