'The Sick Bag Song'

After meeting up with an old colleague of mine for drinks and, unexpectedly, oysters at Café Royal, followed by the Nick Cave gig, and then a late meal at Giuliano's, the Minx and I stayed over at Motel One, which was really rather good.

Refreshed after a good night's sleep, we set off this morning for a stroll over Waverley Bridge, up Market Street, through Milne's Court to the Lawnmarket, and then from Johnston Terrace down to Grassmarket. Our plan had been to walk across the The Meadows and make our way up to Toast on Marchmont Road for breakfast but sudden rain saw us take refuge in the Starbucks on Middle Meadow Walk, where we spent a happy half hour reading.

In the end, we walked back towards the station and found a place to have a very satisfying full Scottish breakfast on George IV bridge before we headed back to the station to catch our train south. It was all very relaxing and I could happily have spent the rest of the day that way but this afternoon I needed to go into the office for a session on ISO 27001, which was an abrupt change of pace!

When I got home, this evening, their was a parcel waiting for me. It was Nick Cave's new book - 'The Sick Bag Song' - which the Minx had sent me as a present. It was characteristically thoughtful of her and I couldn't resist sitting down with it immediately, which is one of the reasons that we ended up having a take-away curry for tea!
