Lady's-smock

The rain over the last couple of days has finally brought out the Lady's-smock (or Cuckooflower, or Milkmaids) along one of the woodland rides at the nature reserve. I know this is a really common spring flower for many of you, but it is not very frequent on the chalk here. There are a few patches where pockets of clay hold the water a little to create areas of damp vegetation. As one of its names suggests, I should get to hear a cuckoo at the reserve any day now.
