Deichstrasse, Dike street

This little street near the Elbe and the old harbor areas is unique for its grouping of old buildings with living quarters but also offices and warehouses from around 1650. They survived the big fires and two wars, especially the bombing during the second WW. On this side of the Nikolai Fleet (the name of the water) You see a very old warehouse at the right edge of the picture, then a building from a later time, then another 7 or 8 very old houses. They are bordered by a very big building from around 1900 belonging to one of the rich ship owners at the time and long there after. To the left of this building, nearly at the left side of the picture, you see a building from the Sixties of the last century and behind it all, towering above the old buildings is the new Philharmony Building, It is being built since 10 years now, if not longer and it is expected that the first concert there will take place in 2017.
Busy day with lots of visits and good meetings with old friends.

Good night...
