'Close' Encounter

The Blood Lilies have begun to bloom. Native to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, the Blood Lily is only 8-10 inches tall while its 'umbel' will sometimes reach 10-12 inches in diameter and be made up of nearly 200 tiny flowers.  Each plant will produce only one of these spectacular 'flowers' in a season! I am growing them in a stone pot and they have multiplied each of the last 3 years so that there are 7 of them. When they all bloom at basically the same time, the sight is indeed breathtaking! Take a look at the 'extra photo' to get an idea what the flower looks like. :)
