Cycling up&down to Wahmbeck

We would cycle the Weser Riverside Road to Wahmbeck. The next river town  - far beyond South-East Window. And beyond the sharp Kuhlenberg Turning. There the steep Solling rockformations have forced the riverwaters to bend more than a 120 degrees from North to West-South-West. There you have the attractive challenge: climbing up the Kuhlenberg slope until you can walk down the steep descent further to reach back the lower riverside. There deep under your feet the train is passing through the Kühlenberg Tunnel.

Once you have reached the open fields near Wahmbeck, you cross wide, friendly ondulating fields&meadows. We love this spacious and at the same time intimate landscape. Covered with bushes and big old trees. The cattle and sometimes the horses under a shadowy oak. Or drinking at the waterside. You feel invitated to leave that bike and lay down in the mown grass. The sun is bright and hot. A fresh breeze blows through the valley. Life is lazy&wonderful.

At Wahmbeck near the small church you find the primitive ferry to cross the river. Here some people watch the traffic. In fact nothing happens. For us a nice corner to sit in the shadow and taste our sandwich before engaging for the return tour. This time against the wind, walking uphill, flying down, climbing up again, and again until the final test comes just near home. I did not fail and blessed my energies. Willemien tried an alternative wood track. If we have time and energy so many new ways to explore. What a splendid day!
