Barriers to Freedom

The conservation centre set up by Gerald Durrell is here on Jersey.  We ended up spending all day there as it was so lovely.  There are not the 'big' animals like lions and elephants as it is all about protecting endangered species, but there are bears, orangutans and gorillas, amongst others. There are inevitably barriers between the animals and the public so today's theme was easy to meet...except that a wide angle shot with animals in the distance and fence in the foreground is not that interesting.  Whilst in the reptile house, i noticed the reflection of the exit door on the glass barrier between us and the iguanas.  A child was trying to make his escape to freedom but soon hauled back by his mother!  So here we have two iguanas one on each side (you'll have to look large to see them) and the reflective barrier for the humans.

All the animals are there for there own safety to prevent them becoming extinct.  I would definitely return to Durrell Zoo if I get the chance.

My extra shots today include a gorilla and the sunset over the sea this evening looking towards Guernsey.
