Antiques

Another trailer trip in the early morning this time to get some glass bricks. Thinking of providing a bit more shelter for the bees but want to retain as much light as possible. The bricks were free and in very good condition, so nothing lost but could do with quite a few more. However they are fairly rare having been very popular in the 60's & 70's often as a narrow strip on the outside wall following the indoor staircase.

Picked them up in the village of Günz which is just 10 minutes away (last Sunday we were in Holzgünz, also nearby but a different parish). I think the one and only time I was in this village was in 2001 when we were considering buying our current house and the then owners did the "entertainment" bit by taking us to a well known establishment in the village, The Laupheimer Hotel, Restaurant & Brewery  , We fell for the trick and propably the reason we have never been back although we both remember it as having excellent food. As usual it was once (1411)  the site of a convent which included a tavern and brewery! The current building is just a huge railway station/warehouse type construction and not as such inspiring (see extra photo).

Just 100 meters away, what caught my eye was an old (1650) farm house with signs saying it was "The Antik Hof & Cafe". Looked very interesting so pulled up and had a look around. Nothing much happening at the early hour and cold, dismal, if dry, weather.

Turned out to be very interesting with loads of bits and pieces scattered all over the yard and on walls. there is clearly an antiques workshop and showroom, lots of ornaments and the cafe with tables all over the yard and garden. Seems to be mainly coffee and cake in the cafe but they do have a range of snacks and 3 alcoholic drinks but notably no beer or wine despite the defty typical Bavarian snacks which I can't imagine anyone eating with coffee.

Will have to return with Angie on a warm sunny day. Sure she will love it. and a note for the possible places to go with grandchildren in August.

Back home to see Angie ride out with Rosie. I picked up Flash half an hour later and got home just before Farmer Franz suddenly appeared with tractor and trailer - two old mobile hay racks, which I will have to Blip one day and a sack of oats to sow on thebare earth which he had harrowed a few weeks ago. Need to buy some grass seed to mix in but with the rain it can wait. Need moist ground but also need to roll it when seeding and the top soil needs to be dry enough not to stick on the roller.

Then set about trying to clean up another antique - an old wood/coal stove. Not a beauty, just the standard small white enamelled type, probably from the 50's. Quite a bit of rust and the oven is in bad shape but looks good enough to spend a bit of time on and perhaps use as a compliment to BBQ. Rather like the copper water container but haven't come up for a reason for needing hot water during a BBQ. Another future Blip.

Had to stop eating at midday and start drinking some ghastly liquid in the early evening. Tomorrow morning coloscopy. As always with e the liquid doesn't seem to be doing it's work. Another liter to drink at 6:00 am and hope that does the trick. I'm hungry though.
