Saltburn Seaside

And in keeping with that great British bank-holiday tradition the weather was freezing!  At least it was when we set off to walk down the beach towards Marske.  Slightly better in the afternoon when we caught a few flashes of sun.  Still it was a lovely walk - lots of fossils along the route we took ... and lots, and lots of dog walkers ... and us.

The morning started off quite brightly here at Pear Tree House but had clouded over by the time we set off.  Two wildlife highlights today.  I saw the curlew chick in the field - then mum and then another curlew chick.  I have a photo of mum + one chick.  And then as we drove out of Danby on the road that crosses Danby Moor we spotted two tiny black fluffy things moving across the road - we couldn't quite work out what these small bundles of fluff were.  They turned out to be newly hatched Snipe chicks and mum was getting into a state at the site of the road.  Ann helped them off the road (people drive fast along there) and onto the other side.  Well by the time we returned at about 5pm - they were back where they had started from.  I hope she teaches them how to cross the road a little more safely than they were doing this morning.

p.s the pier, a glimpse of sun and people well wrapped up for life on the beach!
