Ramblings and Mutterings

Cadair Idris

Day two in Snowdonia, I had originally planned to climb Snowdon again, in the hope that I would get a view at the summit.  However, after we came down from Tryfan we checked the forecast in the café and it wasn’t great.  Luckily Graham had a cancellation so I spent a second day with him and climbed Cadair Idris instead.

As yesterday we took a harder route to the top by taking on the Fox’s Path, which was a combination of scree and scrambling.  Looking at it from the bottom it looked like a sheer cliff face but once you were on it was actually quite good.  Great fun!

We didn’t get to see much on the summit of Cadair Idris as the mist had come down, but we did stop and have lunch in the summit shelter.  As we made our way down there was a bloke looking rather lost, we caught him up and he asked us for some help.  He was looking to get back to his car park, we asked if he had a map, nope, what car park was he in, didn’t know.  We eventually worked it and told him what he needed to, he was absolutely miles away from where he needed to be.  Quite scary to think people go up on such a mountain range without a map, he had all the kit but no brains.

Got some practice of navigation on the way down as well, which was brilliant, as the way Graham taught me helped to make things click.  It’s been a brilliant two days with Graham and I’ve learnt a hell of a lot.  It’s probably two of the best days I’ve had in the mountains EVER!
