Beneath Biscay

Musical morning

Lovely to walk down to to Plaza Mayor to find the Banda De Música De Gijón "Villa de Jovellanos" about to start a Sunday morning concert. The band was formed in 1878 and currently plays more than fifty concerts annually.

Later on, back in the old town, more music. A visiting choir from Portugalete near Bilbao, on an excursion to Gijón, put on an impromptu performance.

They were all wearing Athletic Bilbao football club neckerchiefs (there are a couple of them top-left in the photo) and seemed to be in good spirits, despite the fact that their team lost to Barcelona last night, in the cup final.

This is the second Sunday running we have been lucky enough to have a visiting choir from the Basque country performing in the street. Last week it was a choir from San Sebastian.
