Daisies and abandonment

This mass of boulders and weeds was once the sight of a shanty town with 6000 inhabitants, at the last census. And this where recovery work and attempts to tame the river stopped. There was going to be a dam - or maybe not. It was going to be a park and nature reserve - or maybe not. The remaining buildings were going to be demolished and the people rehoused - or maybe not. The money was frittered away, or tucked into the wrong pockets, the plans were never finalised and all the time, the weeds were growing, both around and in the river, and the boulders piled up on the bank where the dam was meant to be have also been rolling down into the stream. If there's ever another flood like the one four years ago, they'll all be swept downstream to cause more problems elsewhere.

Meantime, these yellow 'daisy bushes' spring up in all the vacant lots and open areas, sweetening the air with the scent of nectar.
