Portovino

Today we were heading north up the lake, stopping off first at Gravedona, for coffee and some shopping. We then continued up to Colico where we had lunch at the Portovino restaurant shown in the photograph.

We chose one of the specials. I had professed to speak Italian, so the waitress did not have to try to explain the specials in English. I liked the sound of the second dish she described. It was fish, sciabola, I was not familiar with the fish, but the way it was prepared sounded good.

I later looked up sciabola and found the English translation is scabbard, which leaves me none the wiser, but based on the picture is not a very attractive looking fish. It was a white fish filleted and stuffed. It was very good on the plate and came in a foil wrap with a delicious light sauce which we soaked up with bread.

After lunch we had a wonder around the beach area of Colico before returning to Lenno. The northern part of the lake is quite different to the central area. The hills are much higher, and around the lake there is a focus on water sports.
