Sunday was the celebration service for the 50th Anniversary of Cumbernauld United Reformed Church.

As the New Town of Cumbernauld began to grow in the 1960's some of the churches decided they ought to have a presence in the area. A minister from Aberdeen, Rev Jim Shanks, was asked to start a Congregational Church in the North Carbrain area of Cumbernauld. After knocking on doors and inviting people to meet for worship in his house, he eventually got 21 people to 'sign up' to join this church on 5th June 1965.

Fifty years later, a packed congregation of members, former members, invited guests from the community and other local churches met in what is now Cumbernauld United Reformed Church to celebrate with them and give thanks to God for their continuing presence and witness in the town.

And there was a mighty fine buffet afterwards, I must add!
