Wanderings & Witterings

Wind and waves

It seemed a good idea at the time!

A few weeks ago one of my friends and I decided to walk another stretch of the John Muir Way to the east of Edinburgh. (We've completed various different parts, a relatively short stretch at a time, of this long-distance footpath on other occasions.) Saturday was the date that suited us both and we arranged to meet in Edinburgh and get the bus out to Port Seton.

The plan for Saturday was to walk from Port Seton to Musselburgh, a distance of only around six miles. What we hadn't bargained for was the westerly gale that blew in our faces the whole way. What should have been a pleasant walk along the shores of the River Forth became a battle against the elements. On the plus side, it stayed mostly dry and the company was good.

We took a break for a late lunch at The Goth in Prestonpans and that seemed to shorten the journey even more. This photo was taken across the road from the pub, looking west to Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh.
