Orangutan

We wake early and have breakfast before cruising down the river again to feeding station 2. We ask if there is any walking we can do so we have a little wander though the jungle but there's not much - its mainly by boat. Station 2 is a little disappointing as we don't see many orangs but that's actually a good thing as it means they are finding food themselves.

We continue our cruise along the river and spot a few birds but no completely wild orangs unfortunately. The river, which is a very muddy brown, suddenly turns black - and it really is sudden - there is pretty much a line where brown ends and black starts. Its called the black river and apparently the water is actually really clear you can just see the blackness of the bottom soil. The whole river used to be this colour but the rest has been muddied by the gold mining in the area. We are told some grizzly stories about a policeman from Java being eaten by a croc and also an English tourist being drowned by one many years ago in this area.

We stop at station 3 where Camp Leakey is based and visit the information centre which is really interesting. We also see plenty of orangs and, in particular a few en route to the feeding station which is a bit more of a wild experience.

We cruise down the river in the dark to the place where we will spend the night. The captain uses his torch and we see croc's eyes peering at us from the mangroves. We also see tons of fireflies which is really nice.

Dinner, chats and bed on the deck again ... its been a good day.
