On Fire!

Alan's had one of those days today - over the weekend we were worried that there was a problem with the toilet, as there was a bit of a strange smell and also when we flushed it, there was  a slight grumbling noise.  Anyway, sure enough this morning it was blocked.  He thought it would slowly drain away, but when he got home this afternoon it hadn't.

So he got his long drain rod and pushed it down the toilet, but it made no difference.  He went to the hardware shop to by a plunger, but that didn't work either.  I phoned Graham who's a plumber and he came round,  and disconnected the toilet but the next thing, there was water coming through the kitchen ceiling - Graham said he's never moved so quickly with a bucket and two sponges!  Fortunately there wasn't a lot of water and it's dried up ok, but he couldn't do anything about the blockage.

Then Peter the plumber came round and he wanted to get to the manhole which  is covered by the new decking!   Fortunately the decking has been fitted in a way that we can remove the boards to get to the drain, and when he checked it, the drain was free.  Peter couldn't do anything  so left, but was back fairly soon afterwards with a guy with a pressure hose.  He didn't know him, he was just going past in his van and so he stopped to ask him to come with him, which he did.  Anyway, he put a camera through the drain, found the problem and flushed it out with his power jet, so full services are resumed!

We ended up going out for a late walk with the boys tonight, as the sun was going down.  It was fairly cloudy and then I spotted this strip  of sun in the clouds which looks the sky is on fire.
