The North Log Cabin...

The North Log Cabin is the oldest known building in Tompkins and Cayuga Counties, which combined were Milton County when it was built in 1791 by Thomas North.  In 1836 his grandchildren Joseph and Henry moved to Michigan, and in 1841 Henry and two others petitioned to name their new home Lansing, after their original home in New York.  In the early 1800s the cabin was used as a school house, then was part of a larger house for almost 100 years, then a museum exhibit.  In 2009 the Lansing Community Council raised money to reassemble the cabin at Myers Park.  This site is just three and a half miles south of its original location.
