Holbrook

This morning CCN and I left the beautiful little town of Gundagai with the objective of being in Melbourne late this afternoon.

We have driven the Hume Highway to Melbourne on many occasions to visit our family and it has been a tradition to stop in Holbrook for a coffee or sometimes a hearty brekkie.  Until recently the Hume Highway has gone straight through the main street of Holbrook and now there is a super duper road which bi-passes the historic town.  Undeterred we decided to visit our favourite cafe and it was amazing to drive into what appeared to be a deserted town.

There is no way I would have ever been game to stand in the middle of the Hume Highway and take the image I've posted tonight.  Not a car in sight on either side of the road.  One car parked on the whole stretch of the main street (oh, and ours of course).  I just hope that this town that was once a thriving country town survives the bi-pass.  It will be a sad day indeed if we drive in and find a CLOSED sign on our favourite cafe.
