Scottish Thistle

This is my entry for the Wednesday Wide Angle challenge, our theme this week is "Floral", kindly hosted by Things Beautiful.

edit: Originally I gave my entry the title Milk Thistle, but I've since been told that it is in fact a Scottish Thistle.

I captured this on my morning walk, and although it's not pretty in the sense that most flowers are, nevertheless it is a flower.  I particularly like the colour   - it being deep and rich and also the fact that there were no other Thistles, and that's possibly why it caught my eye.

It's very hot today which is wonderful after the cold and dreary weather we've had of late  -  I'm just hoping it will last for a few days.
