Quick harvest

Went on a pleasant walk around the village yesterday evening and called in to see how the allotment had faired over the few days we had been away,

In that time there had been sweltering heat, hail and flash floods. I was told that greenhouses only a couple of miles away had been smashed, so big were the hailstones!

Pleased to find that it had weathered well despite the battering it must have taken though I can safely say we won't be harvesting any peas this year.

The currant bushes were covered with plenty of ripe fruit. So today we went and picked both red and blackcurrants. Also a few flowers for the dinner table and a few handfuls of baby Swiss chard.

Mr P also pulled a half a dozen leeks that have suddenly gone crazy, so I need to make leek and potato soup for the freezer. In this warm weather I could try and be posh and serve it cold and call it Vichyssoise!
