Summer Snake

What a surprise when I opened the lid to the compost bin and there was the little garden (garter) snake who lived in there last summer too.
I am glad the wee creature made it through the very long, cold winter. Perhaps it burrowed deep under the compost below.
On the next cool sunny day the bin will be emptied, sifted and then replaced.  The little snake will need to climb in the nearby pussy willow tree or clematis vines.
But I am pleased to see it returned. I think it may include slugs in the reptile diet.
Hope so.
