Waiting for a Congregation, Mount Peel

I'm back at the Church of the Holy Innocents, Mount Peel, for todays blip. It's a place of serenity; it's elevation above the valley flats and the Rangitata River, nestled in the shadow of Mount Peel lends an air of contemplation, perfect for a place of spirituality and devotion.

It's also a place waiting for to be reborn. The earthquakes of 2010/11 reeked havoc; the wall behind the altar pretty much crumbled in the shakes, its magnificent window turned into a huge glass jigsaw puzzle - thankfully pieced together and now at the Quake City exhibition in Christchurch. In the meantime, the Church of the Holy Innocents awaits the return of its window, the rebuilding of its stone walls and the return of its congregation.

Inside the church, the font and organ stand ready for the next service. Here's hoping it won't be too long, with work scheduled to start on the restoration later this year.
