The Road to Rouen...

Backblip

Up at 5.00am planning to be away by 7am but Alan's stomach was so upset it was almost 8am before we finally got on the road.

I won't document our horrendous journey to Zeebrugge in any detail as to be honest, I just want to forget it.  I'll just say it was extremely distressing for us all, and extremely exhausting, particularly for D as he did all the driving and all the heavy work with Alan.

We arrived at the ferry 5 minutes after the final check in time (at one point we thought we were going to miss is completely) and were one of the last four cars to get on!   Thankfully the P&O staff are amazing and so helpful and managed to accommodate our complicated parking needs (near a lift, level access off the car deck and space to let the wheelchair ramp out the side of the car) and we got to our cabin at last.

Alan was really distressed and we all finally got to sleep around 3am.

On the plus side, we didn't get lost in Rouen.  I mentioned on my Blip on the way here that every time we drive via Rouen, the sat nav directs us through the city centre and we always get lost, adding ages to our travel time.

Well Mick was able to tell us that that's because Pont Mathilde, a major bridge over the Seine has finally reopened after being damaged in a lorry crash.  It was closed for almost two years.  So although our journey to the ferry wasn't great, at least we didn't have the added stress of getting lost in Rouen.  Then we really would have missed our ferry!

This shot was taken from the Pont Mathilde and shows the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen.
