Pitlochry Station

A short drive from Newtonmore to Pitlochry first for a smooch around this "shortcake tin" village popular with tourists in search of the Scottish experience.

It wasn't as bad a place as I was prepared for, having an interesting centre promoting the John Muir Trust. John Muir was a famous 19th C environmentalist from Dundee who pioneered the National Park movement in the USA. The Foundation named in his honour also protects several areas in Scotland as well as working for environmental protection around the world.

Pitlochry has a well known dam on the River Tummel, used to generate electricity and provided with a fish ladder to help  salmon and trout around the dam. And, of course, it has a very fine railway station where we had to wait for a train to arrive in order to capture today's blip.

Then it was back in the car for the remainder of the trip down the congested A9 back to Edinburgh.
