Above And Beyond...

Coryton Roundabout

The blipfoto is an aerial of Coryton Roundabout , Junction 32 of the M4 motorway (Cardiff). It is home to the largest roundabout in Europe -just under a mile all the way around (30 acres!) and the A470 manages to cross below the circulatory carriageway at the eastern side, but above at the western side! A simple junction was built in the early 1970's and The M4 to the west opened in 1977 and that to the east opened in 1980. The junction was improved in the summer of 2014 with the addition of a short link road from the westbound M4 to the A470 north.

For those driving around Coryton roundabout, there is little, if nothing to suggest that these areas contain secret constructions. Bunkers and war rooms, used or built to be used in the event of an all-out attack on the UK. Buildings that have now either vanished into history or concealing their past purpose. Up until quite recently, there stood a fairly substantial building. It was the Cardiff War Room.

In the blip photo, the M4 towards England is the lower lane to the left (travelling left) and the upper lane is traffic travelling right towards Swansea. In the centre of the roundabout are council road maintenance buildings.
