Whitby: Midwife Toads

More mysterious in large.
Back blip - Whitby Day 1

We arrived in Whitby on Monday evening. Our evening activity was a visit to Pannett Park at 10PM; our objective was kept secret by our hosts... We ventured to a small ornamental pond, and were met by the most eerie and enchanting surround-sound whistling experience. We found many of these (non-native) midwife toads, but only found two males carrying eggs. The pond was full of their very large tadpoles, as well as (smaller) newts.

p.s. I didn't have my macro lens or flash with me, so this was taken using my walkabout lens (24-70mm) and a hand-held torch...
